LA- Griffith Observatory is beautiful, Olvera Street is amazing at Christmas. You should take a day trip to Laguna Beach or Santa Barbara. As far as shopping goes I hear Melrose Ave is pretty cool, but I've never been there. I also highly recommend Disneyland/California Adventure but you should read up on the fastpass system to maximize your time there and so you don't have to wait in too many lines.
